BUILDING ECOLOGY IN COMMUNITY

“At Arts OutWest, we have been fortunate to work with Creative Plus Business over the past couple of years coordinating the delivery of about 20 workshops to communities within the Central West including at venues in Kandos, Portland, Lithgow, Bathurst, Orange, Molong and Forbes. Artists travel significantly within the Central West to access these Creative Plus Business workshops e.g. 150km between Kandos and Orange. We have had artists travelling from outside the Arts OutWest region including from Katoomba, Wellington and Crookwell to access Creative Plus Business workshops. Return artist’s travelling widely are a testament to the excellence of these programs.”

Full-Day Programs

Our full-day professional development programs for creatives provide the opportunity to take a deep dive into core areas that contribute to building the capacity and ecology of creative communities.

CREATIVE CULTURAL TOURISM

Cultural tourism is a powerful force, attracting travellers driven by a desire for authentic art, culture, study, festivals, and meaningful, deep-dive experiences.

For arts and cultural organisations, connecting with visitors – whether they be intra-state tourists or destination travellers – contributes to revenue, strengthens community ties, and boosts your region’s discoverability.

This one-day intensive offers strategic frameworks and tools to transform your regional centre into a cultural magnet for tourists searching for their next destination.

MENTOR MAKERS

Many people working in the creative industries are helped along the way by an amazing mentor – a more experienced professional with skills and knowledge to share.

However, not every senior practitioner has the ability to share their knowledge effectively with others, which can lead to difficult relationships and problematic outcomes.

Mentor Makers is a program designed to overcome these challenges by teaching creative professionals best practice methods for mentoring someone less experienced.

CARE-BASED BUSINESS

Care Based Business is a whole-day professional development program that helps teams and leaders to better understand this concept, and work together in a safe environment to brainstorm practical and sustainable ways of bringing kindness and empathy into the everyday workings of their creative business or cultural organisation.

Done well, care based business practice benefits everyone involved from the creatives to the clients, funding bodies and audiences, devising projects that are more meaningful, productive, and inclusive. There is also growing evidence to suggest that a rethink of how we work together can also lead to increased productivity, more innovative practice, and a happier team.

CREATIVE BUSINESS EVENTS

Building capacity and connection in your creative community, C+B Creative Business Events are whole-day skills development opportunities that combine our peer-led workshops with networking, practical activities, and a huge range of resources. Delivered in partnership with organisations, venues, or galleries, they can be tailored to the needs of your community.

With four event days covering business basics, managing money, marketing, and wellbeing, these intensives are a transformative investment that pays dividends through enhanced skills, immediate impact, and expanded networks, contributing to a stronger, more confident creative community.

HELPING HANDS

Care Based Business is a whole-day professional development program that helps teams and leaders to better understand this concept, and work together in a safe environment to brainstorm practical and sustainable ways of bringing kindness and empathy into the everyday workings of their creative business or cultural organisation.

Done well, care based business practice benefits everyone involved from the creatives to the clients, funding bodies and audiences, devising projects that are more meaningful, productive, and inclusive. There is also growing evidence to suggest that a rethink of how we work together can also lead to increased productivity, more innovative practice, and a happier team.

The design of the creative industries business education program was tailored in such a way to allow engagement from a broad audience.

The feedback from participants has been very positive, with all participants stating that ‘their professional practice capability has increased’.

The internal feedback relating to the course subject matter and design has been extremely positive and we would have no hesitation engaging Creative Plus Business for future work where relevant.”
